Solar Installation Mona Vale Homeowners Can Trust

Power & Solar Group is a locally based, fully licensed solar and electrical business servicing Mona Vale and the wider Northern Beaches, designing and installing residential and commercial solar systems, battery storage, EV chargers and Level 2 electrical work with our own in-house team. Founder Kieran Garside personally handles site visits. Mona Vale homeowners, from established houses west of Pittwater Road to newer apartments near the village centre, choose us for plain-English quotes and marine-grade hardware built for coastal conditions.

What We Help With

Power & Solar Group helps Mona Vale homeowners and businesses cut power bills and add battery backup with a correctly sized solar system. We handle everything from a rooftop install on a Mona Vale Basin family home to a solar-plus-battery setup near Warriewood, and commercial installs along Pittwater Road. Our work covers:

Whether you are chasing lower bills on a Mona Vale Beach-side home or sizing a system near Elanora Heights, we start with a proper site assessment rather than a generic quote, so what you get matches your roof, usage and budget.

What We Do

Our Services

We design and install solar panels sized to your Northern Beaches roof and household usage, using marine-grade mounting hardware built to handle salt air, storms and coastal humidity.

We install hybrid inverter battery systems that store your daytime solar for evening use, cut reliance on expensive grid power, and keep essential circuits running through blackouts and coastal storms.

We fit string inverters, power optimisers or microinverters based on your roof's shading, always rated for marine environments, so your Northern Beaches system performs reliably well for decades to come.

We design commercial solar systems from 30kW to 100kW-plus for Northern Beaches retail, hospitality, office and warehouse sites, where peak demand lines up with peak solar production for faster payback.

We install solar-integrated EV chargers that divert your surplus solar power straight into your car instead of exporting it to the grid, making the most of every kilowatt you generate.

Our in-house, NECA-accredited Level 2 electricians handle meter alterations, mains connections and service line work, so your solar installation never waits on a second contractor on the Northern Beaches.

Introducing Kieran Garside, Founder

Kieran Garside is the founder and director of Power & Solar Group, a Northern Beaches local with more than ten years designing and installing solar systems across the region. He started out studying marine biology before swapping it for a trade career, a background that still shapes how seriously we take coastal-grade hardware on Mona Vale jobs. He holds Level 2 ASP accreditation through NECA Training and Apprenticeships, an Electrician Trade Licence with NSW Fair Trading issued in 2014, and Solar Design and Installation accreditation through the Solar Accreditation Australia.

Kieran personally does site visits and system design, so the person assessing your Mona Vale roof for shading, orientation and structural load is the same person whose name is on the accreditation. He is also Vice President of BNI 10X, a Belrose-based business networking group.

Mona Vale Local Snapshot

Mona Vale is one of the Northern Beaches' key village and commercial centres, with Pittwater Road forming the retail and business spine and Village Park anchoring the town centre. Power & Solar Group services Mona Vale as part of our regular Northern Beaches run, and with a population of roughly 10,900 spread across established homes, beachside properties near Mona Vale Beach and a growing number of townhouses and apartments, solar systems here need individual assessment, not a one-size-fits-all sale.

Mona Vale at a Glance

  • Population of around 10,900, with a median age of 46 and family households making up roughly three in four homes
  • Housing stock ranges from 1960s to 1980s brick-and-tile homes through to beachside houses and newer medium-density townhouses and apartments
  • Around 77 percent of homes are owner-occupied, higher than the broader Sydney average, which shapes local appetite for longer-payback solar and battery investment
  • Median house price of roughly $2.77 million and median unit price of roughly $1.83 million, with unit values up more than 35 percent over the past year as new medium-density stock comes online

Northern Beaches Council has named Mona Vale one of nine strategic town centres under its Place Plan, and the February 2025 Stage 2 Low and Mid-Rise Housing Reforms allow townhouses and shop-top housing within 800 metres of the centre, and buildings up to six storeys in parts of the zone closest to Pittwater Road, as the area takes on a share of the region's target of 5,900 new homes by 2029. Mona Vale is also home to Mona Vale Hospital, a rehabilitation and sub-acute facility working alongside Northern Beaches Hospital, and the rebuilt Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club on Mona Vale Beach. That mix of older stock and new medium-density builds means we regularly design for a 1970s brick home with a simple roof and a newer townhouse with a smaller, complex roofline, sometimes on the same street.

Understanding Solar Energy in Mona Vale

Solar energy performance in Mona Vale is set by the region's STC Zone 3 rating, the same zone as greater Sydney, averaging around 4.6 peak sun hours a day. Power & Solar Group designs every Mona Vale system around these regional conditions, not national averages.

  • A 6.6kW system in this zone produces roughly 9,600kWh a year on average
  • Winter output typically drops 30 to 40 percent compared with summer
  • North-facing roofs with a 15 to 30 degree tilt perform best
  • East- or west-facing roofs still produce 80 to 90 percent of north-facing output, relevant for the many Mona Vale properties angled toward Pittwater Road or the beach rather than true north
  • Northern Beaches solar uptake climbed from 21 percent of houses in early 2023 to almost 28 percent by mid-2024, with more than 2,700 new installations added across the region in a single year, and Mona Vale's established housing stock accounts for a good share of that growth

Knowing these figures lets you sense-check any quote against your roof's real orientation and shading before you sign anything.

Mona Vale Solar Buying Tips

Buying solar for a Mona Vale property comes down to matching system size, panel choice and installer credentials to your roof and usage, not picking the cheapest quote. Power & Solar Group recommends a few checks before committing to any installer.

1

Confirm the installer is SAA-accredited and the electricians are Level 2 licensed, not subcontracted

2

Ask for a plain-English, itemised quote rather than a lump sum

3

Check marine-grade hardware is included as standard, given Mona Vale's coastal exposure from the beach through to Bayview

4

Get your roof assessed in person for shading and orientation, especially on the smaller, more complex rooflines common in the newer townhouse developments near the village centre

5

Ask how the STC rebate and any battery rebate are applied to your final price, and get it itemised rather than folded into a headline number

If you are wondering whether a smaller 3 to 5kW system suits a unit near the village centre or a bigger family home near Bayview needs 8kW or more, that is what a proper site visit answers, not a generic online calculator.

Solar Cost Guide for Mona Vale

Solar installation cost in Mona Vale depends on system size, but Power & Solar Group can give you a realistic range before we book a site visit. These figures are after the STC rebate.

Typical annual household savings in Mona Vale sit between $1,400 and $2,300, largely because grid electricity currently costs around 30 to 35c/kWh while feed-in tariffs sit at only 3.4 to 6.5c/kWh under IPART's 2026-27 benchmark, or up to around 12c/kWh on selected capped-export retail plans. That gap is why using your own solar power directly, not exporting it, is where the real savings come from.

3-5kW system

$4,500 to $6,000 or more, suited to the smaller units and townhouses near the village centre.

6.6kW system

$5,200 to $7,500 or more, the most common size for established Mona Vale homes, around 25 to 28kWh a day, saves $1,700 to $2,300 a year, payback 3 to 4 years.

8-10kW system

$7,500 to $10,000 or more, 30 to 40kWh a day, saves $2,300 to $3,100 a year, payback 4 to 5 years, a common fit for larger homes near Mona Vale Beach and Bayview.

13kW+ system

$10,000 to $12,000 or more, 50kWh a day or more, saves $3,300 to $4,500 a year, payback 5 to 6 years.

Battery storage

Adds $8,000 to $22,000 or more, with a solar-plus-battery payback of 6 to 10 years, though the federal rebate below currently cuts that upfront cost by around 30 percent for a typical household-sized battery.

Designed for Mona Vale

Solar Solutions for Mona Vale Properties

Different property types across Mona Vale need different solar solutions, and the suburb's mix of established houses, beachside homes and the newer medium and higher-density developments approved under the Place Plan illustrates that well. Power & Solar Group designs each system around the property, not a standard package.

Established North-Facing Homes

Established family homes with larger north-facing roofs typically suit a 6.6kW to 10kW system with room for battery storage.

Newer Townhouses & Apartments

Newer townhouses and apartments near Pittwater Road and Village Park often have smaller or complex rooflines, where microinverters or optimisers make better use of limited space.

Coastal & Beachside Properties

Coastal and beachside properties near Mona Vale Beach need marine-grade stainless hardware and sealed junction boxes as standard, not an upsell.

Shaded Properties

Shaded properties near trees or neighbouring buildings, common toward Ingleside and Bayview, benefit from panel-level monitoring.

Commercial & Retail

Commercial and retail premises along Pittwater Road can move to three-phase systems from 30kW upward, with bulk pricing and depreciation benefits.

Whatever the property, we run a solar pathfinder shading analysis on every site visit, so the system we quote reflects how your roof will actually perform.

Mona Vale Rebates and Incentives

Two rebate schemes currently reduce solar and battery costs in Mona Vale, and Power & Solar Group applies both correctly to every quote so you see the real cost upfront.

STCs: a one-off, upfront rebate cutting $1,700 to $4,000 off a typical 6.6kW system.

Feed-in tariffs: an ongoing per-kWh credit for exported power, currently 3.4 to 6.5c/kWh under IPART's benchmark, though some retailer plans pay up to around 12c/kWh on capped daily exports.

Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program: cuts the cost of a typical household battery under 14kWh by around 30 percent, with the discount tapering for larger systems.

STCs lower your upfront price as a one-time rebate, while the feed-in tariff is an ongoing credit for exported electricity. The STC scheme steps down every 1 January and ends on 1 January 2031, so today's rebate is higher than it will be in a few years' time.

FAQs about Solar Installation in Mona Vale

  • How much does solar installation cost in Mona Vale?

A typical 6.6kW system costs $5,200 to $7,500 or more after the STC rebate, with smaller 3 to 5kW systems from $4,500 and larger 8 to 10kW systems from $7,500 upward. Battery storage adds roughly $8,000 to $22,000 or more.

  • Do I need council approval for solar panels in Mona Vale?

Most residential systems under 10kW do not need council development approval under NSW SEPP provisions. Heritage-listed properties, strata buildings and larger commercial installations sometimes require additional steps.

  • Will solar still work on a roof that is not north-facing?

Yes. East or west-facing roofs still produce roughly 80 to 90 percent of the output of a north-facing roof, and we use angled mounting frames and, where needed, microinverters or optimisers to make the most of non-ideal roof orientations common around Mona Vale.

  • How much can I actually save with solar in Mona Vale?

Typical annual household savings across the Northern Beaches range from $1,400 to $2,300, with a payback period of 3 to 5 years, because grid electricity costs around 33 to 36c/kWh compared with feed-in tariffs of only 4.8 to 7.3c/kWh.

  • Who is the best solar installer near me in Mona Vale?

Look for a licensed, SAA-accredited installer using marine-grade hardware as standard, with the founder or a senior accredited electrician doing site visits personally. Power & Solar Group meets all of that as a Northern Beaches-based, fully licensed and insured business with an in-house team and no subcontracted Level 2 work.

  • What is the difference between STCs and a feed-in tariff?

STCs are a one-off upfront rebate reducing your system's purchase price by $1,700 to $4,000 on a typical 6.6kW install. A feed-in tariff is an ongoing per-kWh credit, currently 4.8 to 7.3c/kWh or up to 20c on off-peak plans, for electricity your system exports to the grid.
