Solar Installation Manly Homeowners & Businesses Can Trust

Power & Solar Group is a Northern Beaches based, fully licensed and SAA-accredited solar business installing rooftop solar, battery storage, and EV charging across Manly, from beachside apartment blocks near the Corso and Manly Wharf to Federation homes on the ridges toward Fairlight and Balgowlah. We're a local team, not a call centre, and our founder Kieran Garside personally visits sites across Manly to assess roof orientation, shading, and the coastal salt exposure that comes with living this close to the ocean.

What We Help With

Power & Solar Group helps Manly homeowners, strata committees, and hospitality businesses install solar power, battery storage, and EV charging built for a harbourside and oceanfront climate:

  • Residential solar for everything from a terrace behind the Corso to a hillside Federation home in Fairlight
  • Commercial-scale solar for hospitality and retail, from a boutique venue near Manly Wharf to a busy beachfront cafe, built to manage high daytime energy use around the Corso
  • Strata approval support, rooftop space planning for multi-unit buildings, and systems sized to the smaller roof sections common on apartment blocks, since flats and units make up most of Manly's housing stock as one of the densest suburbs on the Northern Beaches

Whatever the building type, we handle the inspection, design, and licensed installation ourselves, in-house, with no subcontracted work.

What We Do

Our Services

We design and install solar panels sized to your Northern Beaches roof and household usage, using marine-grade mounting hardware built to handle salt air, storms and coastal humidity.

We install hybrid inverter battery systems that store your daytime solar for evening use, cut reliance on expensive grid power, and keep essential circuits running through blackouts and coastal storms.

We fit string inverters, power optimisers or microinverters based on your roof's shading, always rated for marine environments, so your Northern Beaches system performs reliably well for decades to come.

We design commercial solar systems from 30kW to 100kW-plus for Northern Beaches retail, hospitality, office and warehouse sites, where peak demand lines up with peak solar production for faster payback.

We install solar-integrated EV chargers that divert your surplus solar power straight into your car instead of exporting it to the grid, making the most of every kilowatt you generate.

Our in-house, NECA-accredited Level 2 electricians handle meter alterations, mains connections and service line work, so your solar installation never waits on a second contractor on the Northern Beaches.

Introducing Kieran Garside, Founder

Kieran Garside founded Power & Solar Group and personally leads the work our team carries out across Manly and the wider Northern Beaches. He's a Northern Beaches local with more than 10 years of experience designing and installing solar systems, and he swapped an early marine biology degree for a trade career in solar and electrical work.

Kieran holds Level 2 ASP accreditation through NECA Training and Apprenticeships, an Electrician Trade Licence with NSW Fair Trading issued in 2014, and Solar Design and Installation accreditation through the Solar Accreditation Australia. He's also Vice President of BNI 10X, a Belrose-based business networking group, keeping him connected across the region, including Manly's hospitality scene. Kieran does site visits himself rather than sending a sales rep, so the person assessing your roof in Fairlight, Balgowlah, or on the Manly beachfront is the same person accredited and accountable.

Manly Local Snapshot

Manly sits at the southern tip of the Northern Beaches, anchoring the coastline Power & Solar Group services from Manly Beach up to Palm Beach and Barrenjoey Lighthouse. It's also the most densely built and apartment-heavy suburb on that stretch: the 2021 Census counted 16,296 residents across 6,973 occupied dwellings, and 76.8 percent of those homes are flats or apartments, clustered tightly around the Corso, Manly Wharf and the beachfront. Separate houses make up only around 10 to 11 percent of the housing stock, with most of those, plus a run of heritage Federation homes, sitting on the ridges toward Fairlight, Balgowlah and Seaforth.

  • Northern Beaches-wide solar uptake now sits close to 28 percent of homes, up from 21 percent in 2023, with roughly 20,000 systems installed and another 2,700 added in the past 12 months alone.
  • Northern Beaches Council has set a target of 50 percent of suitable roofs carrying solar by 2030.
  • Manly's renter share is high at 42.7 percent, well above the Greater Sydney average of 32.6 percent, meaning a large share of local solar decisions rest with owners corporations and landlords rather than owner-occupiers.
  • Hospitality is a bigger slice of the local economy here than almost anywhere else on the Beaches. Accommodation and food services make up 9.1 percent of Manly's industry mix, and well over 100 cafes, restaurants and bars operate around the Corso, running fridges, air conditioning and kitchen equipment through the exact hours solar generation peaks.

Understanding Solar Energy in Manly

Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity you can use immediately, store in a battery, or export to the grid for a credit, and that mechanism works identically whether the panels sit on a strata rooftop metres from Manly Wharf or a hillside block toward Balgowlah. Manly's 2095 postcode falls inside STC Zone 3, the same rebate zone covering greater Sydney from postcode 2084 through to 2108. The suburb averages around 4.6 peak sun hours a day, so a standard 6.6kW system produces roughly 9,600kWh a year, though winter output typically drops 30 to 40 percent below the summer peak. Feed-in tariffs for 2025-26 sit in an IPART benchmark range of 4.8 to 7.3 cents per kilowatt hour, rising to around 20 cents on some time-of-day plans, while grid electricity in the low-to-mid 30 cents per kilowatt hour range means self-consumption matters far more than export credits for most Manly households and businesses. Power & Solar Group designs every system around actual usage patterns, so a Corso cafe with heavy daytime load gets a completely different system to an apartment that's empty from 8am to 6pm because its occupants are among Manly's 68.9 percent full-time workforce.

Manly Solar Buying Tips

The biggest mistake Manly buyers make is choosing a system on price alone rather than roof type, orientation and how the property is actually used day to day. Power & Solar Group recommends a proper site inspection, including a solar pathfinder shading analysis, before committing to a size or brand.

1

Get an itemised, plain-English quote so you know exactly what hardware, labour and paperwork is included.

2

Ask whether the installer subcontracts Level 2 work. Ours doesn't; meter alterations and mains connections stay in-house.

3

In a strata building near the Corso or Manly Wharf, check body corporate approval requirements before ordering equipment, and factor in shared roof access with neighbouring units.

4

If your home sits in one of Manly's heritage conservation areas toward Fairlight or Balgowlah, check whether panel visibility from the street affects council or heritage sign-off.

5

Match battery size to usage. High evening demand needs a different setup to a Corso business with high daytime demand.

6

Confirm hardware is rated for coastal conditions. Salt spray and humidity off Manly Beach and North Steyne shorten the life of standard fittings faster than they would further inland.

7

Check the installer's licences and SAA accreditation directly, not just a sales brochure.

Solar Cost Guide for Manly

Solar installation costs in Manly depend on system size, roof type and whether you add a battery, and Power & Solar Group provides an itemised quote before any work starts.

Most Manly households save $1,400 to $2,300 a year on power bills after installing solar, and hospitality businesses with heavier daytime use, common along the Corso, often see larger savings again.

3-5kW system

$4,500 to $6,000 plus, suited to smaller apartments with modest use.

6.6kW system

(Most common): $5,200 to $7,500 plus after the STC rebate, producing 25 to 28kWh a day, saving $1,700 to $2,300 a year, payback 3 to 4 years.

8-10kW system

$7,500 to $10,000 plus, 30 to 40kWh a day, saving $2,300 to $3,100 a year, payback 4 to 5 years.

13kW+ system

$10,000 to $12,000 plus, 50kWh a day or more, saving $3,300 to $4,500 a year, payback 5 to 6 years.

Battery storage

Adds $8,000 to $22,000 plus, with a solar-plus-battery payback of 6 to 10 years.

Commercial

From 30kW to 100kW plus are quoted individually for Corso and beachfront hospitality venues, typically eligible for bulk pricing and accelerated depreciation.

Strata and Unit Blocks

With 53.1 per cent of local dwellings recorded as flats or units, Power & Solar Group spends real time here on shared roof space, body corporate approval and individual metering, recommending microinverter or optimiser systems so shading between adjacent buildings does not drag down output.

For homes on the hillier streets near Curl Curl and Queenscliff, we design rooftop solar, battery and hybrid systems for blackout backup, and EV charger installation tied into existing solar generation.

Established Houses

Bigger Homes, Bigger Systems

Larger homes with bigger bills get 8 to 10kW or 13kW-plus systems, paired with a battery where blackout protection or time-of-day savings make the payback worthwhile.

Local Businesses

Commercial solar sized to suit cafes, retail and hospitality operators around Freshwater Village and the Harbord Diggers precinct.

Available for automating how solar, battery and grid power work together.

Smart Home Energy Management

Designed for Manly

Solar Solutions for Manly Properties

Manly's mix of beachside apartments, strata buildings and hillside Federation homes each need a different approach, and with flats and apartments making up 76.8 percent of the suburb's housing stock, most Manly systems are designed for shared buildings rather than standalone roofs. For apartment and strata buildings near the Corso and beachfront, Power & Solar Group works with body corporates on shared roof access and individual metering, using angled mounting frames on flat roofs plus microinverters or optimisers so shading from a neighbouring building doesn't take out a whole system. For hillside houses and Federation homes toward Fairlight, Balgowlah and Seaforth, there's typically more roof space and better orientation, and north-facing roofs pitched 15 to 30 degrees perform best, though east or west-facing roofs still produce 80 to 90 percent of that output. For hospitality along the beachfront strip, where accommodation and food services already account for 9.1 percent of local industry, Power & Solar Group designs three-phase commercial systems sized to daytime demand from kitchens and air conditioning, matching Manly's steady day-tripper and tourist trade to peak solar generation.

Manly Rebates and Incentives

Manly homeowners and businesses can reduce solar and battery costs through two federal schemes, and Power & Solar Group includes all the paperwork for both in every quote. The Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme provides a one-off, upfront rebate cutting $1,700 to $4,000 off a typical 6.6kW system, applied at the point of purchase. The scheme's deeming period shortens every 1 January and the scheme itself winds down completely by 2030, so a system installed sooner attracts a larger rebate than the same system installed later. The Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, running since July 2025, separately cuts battery costs by about a third. On top of these, NSW feed-in tariffs pay an ongoing per-kilowatt-hour credit, currently 4.8 to 7.3 cents under the 2025-26 IPART benchmark, or up to 20 cents on time-of-day plans, for power exported to the grid. STCs are a one-off rebate at installation, feed-in tariffs an ongoing bill credit for exported energy.

Chosen by Locals

Why Manly Homeowners Trust Power & Solar Group

Power & Solar Group is trusted by Manly homeowners and business owners because we're a fully licensed, insured, SAA-accredited local team, not a call centre passing your job to a subcontractor. Our founder, Kieran Garside, personally holds the Solar Accreditation Australia accreditation and does site visits himself, so the person assessing your roof near the Corso or up in Fairlight is the same person accountable for the design. Every Level 2 task, including meter alterations and mains connections, is carried out by our own NECA-accredited in-house electricians, never subcontracted. We use marine-grade, coastal-rated hardware as standard, not an upsell, which matters given Manly's ocean exposure. With 10 plus years of local experience across Manly and the wider Northern Beaches, we back every system with proper licensing, insurance, and warranty support.

FAQs about Solar Installation in Manly

  • How much does solar installation cost in Manly?

Solar-only installs typically cost $4,500 to $12,000 plus after the STC rebate, depending on size, with the common 6.6kW system running $5,200 to $7,500 plus. Adding a battery brings the total to $8,000 to $22,000 plus. Power & Solar Group provides an itemised quote before work begins.

  • Do I need council approval for solar panels in Manly?

Most residential systems under 10kW don't need a council development application under NSW SEPP provisions. Heritage-listed Federation homes, strata buildings, and larger commercial jobs around the Corso or Manly Wharf sometimes need approval, which we can help you check first.

  • Can I install solar if my roof isn't north-facing?

Yes. East or west-facing roofs, common on Manly's apartments and hillside homes, still produce 80 to 90 percent of north-facing output. Power & Solar Group uses angled mounting frames on flat roofs and microinverters or optimisers on shaded roofs to maximise output regardless of orientation.

  • How much will I save with solar in Manly?

Most Manly households save $1,400 to $2,300 a year on power bills after installing solar, with payback in 3 to 5 years depending on system size. Hospitality and retail businesses with high daytime use often see larger savings again.

  • Who is the best solar installer near me in Manly?

Look for a licensed, insured, SAA-accredited installer with an in-house electrical team, not subcontractors. Power & Solar Group is a Northern Beaches local business, our founder personally does site visits, and we use marine-grade, coastal-rated hardware as standard on every Manly job.

  • What's the difference between STCs and feed-in tariffs?

STCs are a one-off rebate at installation, cutting $1,700 to $4,000 off a typical 6.6kW system. Feed-in tariffs are an ongoing credit, currently 4.8 to 7.3 cents per kilowatt hour, or up to 20 cents on time-of-day plans, paid for solar power you export to the grid.
